About This Site
Who Am I?
I am just like you- making my way, figuring things out as I go. I have been on this journey for quite a while now, with some great experiences to show for it. I have a day job and, most importantly, a wonderful wife and two amazing grown sons. You can call me Michael, Miguel or, for purposes of this Blog if you like, Doc.
Why Am I Doing This?
Many years ago, I discovered wine on a trip to California. Up to that point, beer was my drink of choice. Besides a wonderful awakening of my palate, I discovered this was just the tip of an iceberg, with so much to learn about something that changes every year.
So, I started pulling corks. If I had a dollar for every cork…
Anyway, as I experimented and learned, I came to see that wine is more than just some tasty juice in your glass. It is the culmination of love, hard work, science and luck. It has a life of its own. It changes, evolves…every year. It brings people together.
My love for wine is matched by a love of good food, a love for writing and a love for sharing and educating. It is that combination that caused family and friends to suggest I start something like this. Frankly, I didn’t have any good reason to say no.
What This Blog Is
I want this to be a non-threatening, easy-to-read way to learn about wine. I look forward to sharing my views, and getting yours. While I can’t and won’t get away from describing what I see, smell and taste, I will also focus on learning. I will strive to keep it simple. And we will have fun.
What This Blog Is Not
This is not a wine ratings site. Wine reviews, resulting in a numerical rating (“95 Points!”) are usually a collection of complex, sometimes over-the-top descriptions. That’s not what I want to accomplish here.
What You Should Expect
Expect to learn something about grapes, geography, vocabulary, how the wine is made, who made it, and of course, what is in the bottle.
